Sri Lanka batter Lahiru Thirimanne has announced his decision to retire from international cricket. The top order batter announced his decision via his Facebook page. He has left the game after registering 44 Tests and 127 ODIs, and 26 T20Is over 13 years.
“As a player I have given my best, I have tried my best, I have respected the game and I have done my duty honestly and ethically to my motherland,” Thirimanne posted on his Facebook page.
“It was a difficult decision to make, but I cannot mention here the many unexpected reasons that influenced me to take this decision willingly or unwillingly. I take this opportunity to thank the SLC members, my coaches, teammates, physios, trainers and analysts for their support and encouragement.”

Thirimanne had made his debut with the 50-over format, during the triangular series game in which he played against India in Mirpur. He scored his maiden century in a match against Australia during Adelaide in 2013, and went to enjoy an impressive year in 2014.
Thirimanne Topped the batting charts during Sri Lanka’s title winning Asia Cup campaign with two international hundreds. He also was one of Sri Lanka’s T20I player that took home the T20 World Cup. He was in the best form of form when he played the 50-over format back in the year 2015, when the batting legend scored 861 runs – including the World Cup hundred. In the Tests, Thirimanne scored three tons including the final one which was in a victory over Bangladesh during Pallekele on 2021. His last appearance on the long format took place during the match in Bengaluru against India last year.
Thirimanne quits with 2088 Test runs and the ODI game has 3194 run, and 291 runs in T20Is.
