“Pathetic umpiring from umpires, we’re very disappointed’ Harmanpreet Kaur smashes stumps, protests against umpiring in Bangladesh

India were dismissed for 225 in 49.3 overs following Bangladesh scored their highest score in the format of 50 overs against India 225/4. They batted first. Fargana Hoque (107) scoring the first ODI 100 for the home country.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s displeasure with the officiating at the final ODI match against Bangladesh at Mirpur the previous day was clear in her reaction when she was handed out at slip after mistiming the sweep, causing a smack to the stumps, and engaging in an intense discussion with the umpires before she left the field.

The official verdict states Harmanpreet was found guilty however it’s unclear if the umpire signaled LBW and if she did, something that Harmanpreet clearly disagreed with when she left the court, gesturing at her glove and extending thumbs up to the locals.

Three of the decisions upset the Indians specifically the removal of Harmanpreet Meghna, Harmanpreet and Yastika Bhatia. The Bangladeshi players Muhammad Kamruzzman and Tanvir Ahmed were the umpires in the match.

“The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh, we’ll have to make sure we have to deal with this kind of umpiring and accordingly we’ll have to prepare ourselves.”

The event was an important one, because India fell just after the wicket. Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol and Harleen Deol had crafted an 107-run third wicket stand to help India win the pursuit of runs to 226 in order for them to be placed into a good position to win in the last 15 overs. Deol was dismissed just after Harmanpreet and India suffered six losses in just 34 runs in the last eight overs. After the score was tied with just four balls left the tailender Meghna’s Singh played the ball of a Marufa Akter inside-swinger, leaving the match, and also the series tied.
